Does it fit every C8?
The release lives on the Tremec TR-9080 DCT, and every C8 trim uses that transmission. If your Corvette is a 2020-or-later mid-engine car, this is the transmission it has.
How do I get a C8 stuck in Park into neutral?
With no battery, the car cannot shift itself. You reach the manual park release on the transmission, insert the tool, turn and hold the release, and the car rolls. The 20-second unedited video above shows the whole thing on my car.
How is this different from the GM dealer tool?
GM's answer is a dealer-only release tool at dealer pricing. This does the same job, sized for an owner's glovebox and priced at $45, shipped free in the US.
Why can't I just wedge the release open?
GM says the release must never be mechanically held open, and wedging it risks the parking pawl. Hold it while the car moves, then let it go.
Can I use it on a hill?
No. Chock the wheels, keep the car on level ground, and plan for two people on a flatbed load: one holding the tool, one guiding the car.
Can you tow a C8 Corvette with a dead battery?
Not safely without releasing Park first. The wheels are locked, so the options are dragging the car (which damages it), tire skates with a very skilled operator, or the manual park release on the transmission. This owner's tow went the skate route: damaged tow hook threads and a second truck to fix the first load-up. This tool turns that ordeal into a normal winch-on load.
Do I need this if my C8 has never broken down?
It is cheap insurance, especially if you track the car. A dead battery, a no-start fault, or a blown engine all leave the car locked in Park, and that is exactly the day you cannot order a tool. It lives in the glovebox until it earns its keep.
